How the 10K calculator works
A 10K is 10 km (6.214 miles). Your average pace is your finish time divided by 10, so a 50:00 10K is 5:00 per km. Choose what you know: a goal time, a pace you can hold, or a recent race result.
Predictions use the Riegel formula with an exponent of 1.06, the same model as our race time predictor. Splits are available per km, per mile or per 400 m track lap, with even or negative pacing.

Tips for a better 10K
- Train at threshold: tempo runs of 20–30 minutes near 10K effort raise the pace you can hold.
- Practise goal pace: intervals such as 5 × 2 km at 10K pace teach the rhythm.
- Be patient for 5 km: a 10K is long enough that a fast start costs you in the second half.
- Finish strong: save the hard effort for the final 2 km.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to run a 10K?
A 10K is 10 km (6.2 miles). At 5:00 per km it takes 50:00, at 6:00 per km 1:00:00, and at 7:00 per km 1:10:00. Enter your own pace above to get your finish time.
What pace is a sub-50 minute 10K?
5:00 per km, or 8:03 per mile. A sub-40 10K needs 4:00 per km (6:26 per mile), and a sub-60 needs 6:00 per km (9:39 per mile).
How do I predict my 10K time from a 5K?
This calculator uses the Riegel formula, T2 = T1 × (D2 / D1)^1.06. A 25:00 5K predicts about 52:07 for 10K, and a 2:00:00 half marathon predicts about 54:23.
How many laps of a track is a 10K?
A 10K is 25 laps of a standard 400 m track. Choose “400 m lap” in the splits section to see every lap time for your goal.
How should I pace a 10K?
Run the first half at goal pace or a few seconds slower, then hold or speed up over the second half. Use the pacing option above to see a 1–3% negative split.
